I cover the intersection of climate and the culinary world for KCRW’s Good Food, a weekly podcast hosted by chef and author Evan Kleiman. My segments on the clean-up of a wildfire-impacted community garden and on purple urchin ranching also aired on KCRW’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered. I wrote essays for the show’s Substack feed, and prepared notes and questions for Evan ahead of her interviews with guests on the show.

I was the creator, writer, host and engineer on Greener Pastures, a six-part narrative series from Midstory on the future of farming in the Midwest. The region’s agricultural sector is facing some serious challenges — eroding soils, extreme weather, economic hardship. Is the grass greener on the far side of this crisis? I traveled across the Midwest to interview growers of five staple crop varieties, and asked them to share their vision of what the farm and farmer of tomorrow could look like.

I was a creator, writer, host and engineer on Brain Drain, an eight-part narrative series from Midstory on Toledo’s depopulation dilemma. Over the last fifty years, more than a hundred thousand people migrated out of the city, the majority of them young adults. I spoke with dozens of Toledoans — both past and present — to find out why they left, or why they chose to stay. In addition to streaming, the series also aired during primetime on WGTE, Toledo’s local NPR/PBS affiliate.

I was a senior reporter for Possibly, a solutions-oriented sustainability science podcast produced by Ocean State Public Media and Brown University’s Institute for Environment and Society. During my time with the show, I covered a wide range of topics, including the connection between fracking and the plastics industry, a groundbreaking climate lawsuit in Montana and the history of Earth Day. I still produce occasional episodes for the show – right now, I’m working on one about Princeton’s recent decision to re-invest its endowment in oil and gas companies.

I produced several segments for Today From the Ohio Newsroom, a collaboration among the state’s public media organizations to amplify stories from news deserts across Ohio. I worked with Midstory reporters to adapt their digital coverage for broadcast and coached them through their tracking. I also cut tape and mixed the segments. One of the stories I adapted was my own Midstory feature on Ohio’s annual school bus driving competition. You can find the full digital article on my “Writing” page.

I was the creator, writer, host and engineer on In Transit, Midstory’s limited series covering public transit development across the car-centric Midwest. I chased down stories in five states, speaking with transit administrators, operators and riders who are advancing mobility in the region.
